Australia and International Space Involvement

Rhodes Theatre, RE Kefford Building, RB Finlay Walk, Barker College, 91 Pacific Highway, HORNSBY NSW 2077 DD/MM/YYYY

Community Forum - Technology and Diplomacy

Drawing on his experiences in the Space Industry, our guest speaker Anthony Wicht will talk about what Australia's future in space might look like.

This will include the type of space-related projects Australians can contribute to and what this means for young Australians thinking about a space career. He will also talk about how space is changing; from small satellites to the ever-bigger dreams realised by commercial space companies like SpaceX.

This talk is obviously connected to STEM fields but consistent with the Barker approach, Anthony helps put the 'A'  in 'STEAM'  as he illustrates the role that humanities trained professionals will play in international space projects. Anthony was warmly appreciated by 50 Middle School students last year and by popular demand has been invited back for our Community Forum.

Anthony has been involved in the space industry in Australia and internationally for fifteen years. He started building small satellites at university, studied at MIT, was Australia's representative to the UN's Space Committee, and led the development of Australia's most recent Space Policy. In 2017 he spent three months in Washington DC examining Australia & US space relations. He is currently a consultant with Bain & Company, a global management consulting firm.
