Learning Forum - Developing Goals, Grit and Passion in the Senior Years
This session will specifically focus on learners in the senior years, unpacking key areas related to GRIT, motivation, passion, combined with the development of self-regulation habits that develop awareness of process, and not just the product as we learn. The most successful people regularly employ these behaviours: these habits will be linked to effective student learning and success. The language and skill required to set and attain TARGET GOALS and LEARNING GOALS will be outlined. Towards the end of the session, strategies for fostering parent-student academic and learning conversations will be explored. Drawing on emerging research in education, this session will be of use to both parents and students as they prepare for the final years of their study.
Presented by Dr Brad Merrick, who completed his PhD into student motivation and self-regulation and is the Director of the Barker Institute. Information in this presentation will combine a mix of academic research connected to real life scenarios in education and data from work with students and staff over many years.
