Year 12 Science Extension – Public Lecture Two
The Barker College Science Department would like to invite HSC Science Extension students, teachers and parents, along with anyone interested in the History and Philosophy of Science to join the new Barker Science Extension students for the second of two public lectures.
This is especially tailored for the students beginning the Year 12 course, though students preparing for their HSC exam may choose to come along as revision.
For alumni, parents and friends in our wider community it is an opportunity to enter (or re-enter) the Barker classrooms and learn alongside our staff and students. We warmly invite you to come and be inspired about science, science education and science research.
Lectures will focus on the first section of Module 1, the development of modern science. The first lecture will approach the question from a historical perspective where the scientific process is considered through cultural knowledge (e.g. exemplified by Aboriginal cultures) and paradigm shifting breakthroughs. The second lecture will target the philosophy of science, wrestling with how we use science to develop knowledge (epistemology) and the limitations of science.
Lecture 2, Monday 28 October
The philosophy of science: Epistemology and Scientific reasoning. – Dr Matthew Hill
